Designed and manufactured in New Zealand by Vertigo Technologies, the Vertigo CNC is perfect for the prosumer.

Fully Assembled

All Vertigo CNC machines come fully assembled, including the MX1. They are shipped in their own custom-built shipping crates to keep them safe during transit. Just make sure you have some help to unload your machine and take it out of the box.

Once your Vertigo MX1 CNC machine arrives it is ready to use straight out of the box. Just make sure you have pre-installed all the necessary software - this can be done before your machine arrives.

Materials

The Vertigo MX1 CNC is designed for versatility and can be used to cut a range of material like Foam, Wood, Plastic, Carbon Fibre, Aluminium etc.

Cutting

The Vertigo MX1 is the smallest Vertigo CNC, but with a cutting envelope of 600mm x 600mm x 110mm, it still offers a good amount of working area. Most hardware stores stock reasonably priced sheets of wood at 1200mm x 600mm, but will usually cut them for you free of charge.

The Z axis also has 130mm of travel which comes in handy when cutting thicker materials and using long cutting bits.

Waste board and Workholding

The Vertigo MX1 CNC features a High-Density Polyethylene bed that is moisture resistant and durable as well as being lightweight, giving the machines a sleek but functional aesthetic.

The bed of the MX1 features 4 full-length universal T-slot rails, placed a convenient distance apart for workholding. The machine comes with 6 T-bolts of different sizes, allowing you to get up and cutting as soon as possible.

Drive

The Vertigo MX1 uses acme lead screws to drive each axis with power being provided by NEMA 23 stepper motors. This design provides the Vertigo CNC superior accuracy over similar belt driven machines.

The lead screws are held in place by a dual angular contact bearing to take load off the motor. The bearing is then held in place by a sleek anodized bearing cap that is precision manufactured in-house.

Controller

The brains behind the Vertigo MX1 CNC is an LPC1769 microcontroller running an optimized version of Smoothieware.

The Vertigo CNC controller is a modular design, including the microcontroller board, four driver boards running TMC262 driver chips and an ESP32 for Wi-Fi functionality (coming soon).

The control box boasts a number of useful features: an E-Stop and homing button (soon you will have to option of this being a feed hold button) can be found on top for easy reach. At the rear of the box is a number of connections: power in, Ethernet and touch probe connector. Also on the back of the controller is the cooling fan and power switch. There is also a USB cable for connecting the controller to your computer. The cable is attached directly to the controller to limit the risk of accidental disconnection.

The controller connects to the machine using an industrial “Epic” connector and is secured in place by two levers so there is no chance of accidental disconnection during operation.

Vertigo Technologies makes continuous improvements to their controller and software, and the Vertigo CNC controller is designed with easy upgradability in mind.

Z-Axis

The Z-axes on all Vertigo CNC machines are made out of billet aluminium machined in-house. The Z-axis is driven by a single lead screw centered between 2 linear rails.

The design of the Z-axis has been 2 years in the making and Vertigo Technologies continues to improve it. The most recent upgrade has been adding in the extra linear rail, which has shown noticeable improvement to the quality and accuracy of cuts.

Wiring

All Vertigo CNC wiring looms are made using Lapp cable with Molex crimps and connectors, to ensure that the wiring is easily upgradable and customisable. The Molex connectors are used on all wiring connections including the motors, giving you versatility and the option to upgrade in the future as Vertigo Technologies continues to innovate.
